BEST WAY TO USE A CREDIT CARD

Credit cards can be both a bane and a boon, depending on how they are used.

Pros of using a credit card

On the one hand, credit cards can be very useful for managing day-to-day expenses, making purchases online or in person, and building credit. They can also provide rewards or cashback for purchases, which can help offset the cost of using the card. Credit cards can also be a valuable tool in emergency situations when cash is not readily available.

Cons of using a credit card

On the other hand, credit cards can also be a bane if not used responsibly. If the cardholder carries a balance and only pays the minimum amount due each month, they will likely incur high-interest charges and potentially fall into debt. Credit cards can also make it easy to overspend, leading to financial strain and difficulties. In addition, some credit cards come with high fees, such as annual fees or foreign transaction fees, which can add up over time.

In short, credit cards can be a boon when used responsibly, but a bane if used unwisely.

It's important to understand the terms and conditions of a credit card, including interest rates, fees, and rewards, and to use the card only for purchases that can be paid off in full each month.

Best way to use a credit card

Using a 0% interest rate credit card can be a great way to save money on interest charges while still being able to make purchases on credit. A 0% credit card is a type of credit card that offers a promotional introductory interest rate of 0% for a certain period of time, typically between 6 and 18 months. During this period, the cardholder can make purchases or transfer existing balances from other credit cards to the 0% card without incurring any interest charges.

We regularly utilize 0% credit cards for making large purchases, home improvement needs, school tuition, unforeseen circumstances, vacations, etc. when we know that we can pay off the balance in full before the promotional period ends. Simultaneously, we have been rewarded handsomely with cash-back offers that give us extra cash in hand and points that we can use for future purchases.

We typically apply for a 0% credit card that has a promotional offer for 12-15 months or billing cycles. Then we use only that card for home expenses and large purchases for the promotional period and ensure to pay it off before the promotional period ends. After the promotional period, we apply for another 0% credit card. So we typically use only one credit card during a 12-15 month cycle and make sure it is paid off before the offer ends.

After the promotional period ends, the interest rate will revert to the regular rate, which can be quite high in some cases. Therefore, it's important for cardholders to pay off their balances before the promotional period ends, or to transfer the balance to another 0% card before interest charges kick in.

0% credit cards can be a useful tool for managing debt or making large purchases without incurring high-interest charges, but it's important to read the terms and conditions carefully to understand the fees and requirements associated with the card.

Here are some tips on how to use a 0% interest-rate credit card:

  1. Understand the terms and conditions: Before using the card, make sure you understand the terms and conditions of the offer. Check the length of the 0% interest rate period, the regular interest rate after the promotional period ends, and any fees associated with the card.

  2. Use the card for purchases you can pay off in full: A 0% interest rate credit card can be a great way to pay for purchases you know you can pay off in full before the promotional period ends. This can help you avoid paying any interest charges on your purchases.

  3. Set up automatic payments: To avoid missing a payment and potentially losing your 0% interest rate, set up automatic payments for at least the minimum payment due each month.

  4. Pay off the balance before the promotional period ends: Make sure you pay off the balance in full before the promotional period ends. If you don't, you may be subject to high-interest charges on any remaining balance.

  5. Avoid using the card for cash advances or balance transfers: Cash advances and balance transfers often come with fees and higher interest rates than regular purchases. Avoid using your 0% interest rate credit card for these types of transactions.

By following these tips, you can use a 0% interest rate credit card to your advantage and save money on interest charges. Just be sure to use the card responsibly and pay off your balance before the promotional period ends.
